Correspondence, memoranda, reports, minutes, diaries, appointment books, press releases, speeches, articles, clippings, and other printed materials relating to his agricultural career in Indiana and his government service with the Agricultural Adjustment Administration, 1933-1940, as Secretary of Agriculture, 1940-1945, and administrator of the Rural Electrification Administration, 1945-1953. Also includes family, business, and personal files, ca. 1903-1966; correspondence from his constitutents in Carroll, Clinton, and White Counties during his term as Indiana State Senator, 1932-1933; files from his work as Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Agriculture for the Democratic National Committee, as a trustee of Purdue University, and a director of the Meridian Mutual Insurance Company, 1955-1966; correspondence, memoranda, speeches, press releases, financial records, and printed material from his unsuccessful campaign for the U.S. Senate, 1956; and transcripts of 93 interviews with Wickard by Dean Albertson of the Columbia University Oral History Program, 1952-1953, which formed the basis of Albertson's biography of Wickard, ROOSEVELT'S FARMER.

Claude Raymond Wickard (1893-1967) his family''s farm in Carroll County, Indiana. In 1915 he began his long career as an agriculturist upon graduation from Purdue University with a B.S. degree in Animal Husbandry. With the completion of these studies, Wickard took over the management of the family farm. He distinguished himself by initiating improved farming methods and feeding policies thus winning numerous medals and awards, which let to his selection as a Master Farmer of Indiana in 1927. Bef...
